Q: Any update on the status of the next Terminator film?

McG: Yeah, we're working on it right now. We're very far down the line with the story for that – for the next picture, and even the picture after that, and feeling good and we'll see where that takes us. I'm prepping 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea right now and I'm looking at Spring Awakening, but also the notion of the next Terminator – I mean, we're making it. Warners is excited about it. Sony is excited about it. And we can't wait to get back at it and show the world what becomes of that war and how we master time travel because we stayed away from time travel in Salvation and I missed it. We decided it was the right thing to do and we did a lot of things right in that movie and we did many things wrong in that movie. And we'll learn from the experience and we'll grow and I think the next movie is going to be even more exciting and a better film.

Q: What did you learn, where did you succeed and where did you not with Salvation?

McG: I think the film missed some of the fun that Jim [Cameron] brought to the early pictures. I'm a disciple of Jim. [Expletive], yesterday I was down in Baja at the tanks he built for Titanic scouting 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. We'll bring a little bit more relief in that [fun] capacity. Not to the degree that you saw in the third picture, but a little bit more than ours. We wanted to be very, very nose to the grindstone and really establish credibility and it worked in many ways and it was unsuccessful in other ways, because it wasn't a unanimous world of "[Expletive] yeah, we love Terminator Salvation." There were plenty of people who kicked us in the ass over it. But the film will end up doing about $400 million bucks and internationally it was very well received – better than it was here in the States. But we live in a domestic intensive, Hollywood film world and I take it very personally. I take it very seriously. And clearly I didn't do a good enough job on that picture and I didn't satisfy the fanbase to the degree that I would expect to satisfy them. And I take that very seriously and I just work that much more diligently to make sure I do that in the next one.

a ver, no entiendo.

y premio al q m diga COMO DEMONIOS SKYNET SABE D LA IMPORTANCIA DE KYLE REES EN EL FUTURO O PASADO SI NO HAY LA MINIMA FORMA D Q HASTA EL MOMENTO SE ENTERE D LO Q VA A OCURRIR!!!!!!

The Rights to The Terminator Franchise Are Up for Sale Again
Source: The Los Angeles Times September 29th, 2009

The Los Angeles Times reports that the rights to the Terminator franchise are again up for sale.

Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, who nabbed the science-fiction franchise in 2007 for $25 million and produced this year's Terminator Salvation, are apparently looking to sell the rights "partially or outright as several companies owned by the duo work their way through bankruptcy."

Anderson and Kubicek own Halcyon Holding Group. They recently hired the financial advisory firm FTI Capital Advisors, if the bankruptcy court approves, to "evaluate strategic alternatives," they said in a statement. Any deal for the rights would have to have an investment in, or outright sale, of said rights.

The Terminator came out in 1984 but the rights to the franchise have been sold more than any other major Hollywood film series. When the film was released, Hemdale Film Corp. (the film's production company), owned a 50% interest in the property. Director James Cameron sold the other half of the rights to producing partner and future wife Gale Anne Hurd for $1.

Carolco Pictures, which was owned by producers Mario Kassar and Andrew Vajna, then picked up Hemdale's stake in 1990 for $10 million. They subsequently released Terminator 2: Judgement Day the next year. In 1997, after Carolco filed for bankruptcy, they started a new venture, C2 Pictures. C2 then bought the rights "for $8 million and the remaining 50% from Hurd for $8 million."

Then in 2007, Kassar and Vajna sold off their rights to newbie producers Anderson and Kubicek. Since then there have been filings, more filings and more time spent in courts.

So the big question now is will we see Terminator 5? Terminator Salvation director McG and star Christian Bale had been high on creating more stories for the franchise, but with the rights changing hands yet again this could make things tougher for that to happen. Also, it seems that the movie was something of a box office disappointment for it's studio Warner Bros.

The Terminator Franchise to Be Auctioned Off
Source: Financial Times November 2nd, 2009

The Financial Times has announced that The Terminator franchise will be auctioned off, which has sparked considerable interest because "Terminator" is a unique example of a successful franchise not owned by a big studio.

FT says several financial buyers have expressed interest in Terminator, including Platinum Equity, the Beverly Hills firm that owns Delphi, the auto parts maker.

All the big film studios have also registered interest in the rights, with Sony Pictures a leading contender.

Summit Entertainment, the company behind the Twilight series, is tracking the sale, as is Media Rights Capital, which produced Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno.

The rights are being sold by Halcyon, the production company behind Terminator Salvation. The auction does not cover earlier Terminator films. The rights will give the buyer to make new films, TV series and other spin-offs.

Terminator Franchise to Be Sold by February
Source: Variety December 3rd, 2009

The Terminator franchise to be sold by February In a story from Variety, the future of the Terminator franchise looks to be getting worked out.

Halcyon Holding Group announced today that it hopes to conclude the auction for the rights to the franchise by February 1 as part of its bankruptcy process.

"Over the past few weeks, Halcyon and its professionals have engaged in in-depth discussions and negotiations with numerous serious potential buyers, including several major movie studios," Halcyon stated. "In addition, a number of attractive refinancing alternatives have also been presented. In order to maximize the value of a transaction for all of the company's creditors and stakeholders, we are fully analyzing all these options."

One month ago, Halcyon had said that it would figure out by November 20 which offer would be the "stalking horse" and then set the minimum bid price for all the Terminator assets. This are "rights to future Terminator pics, TV series, DVDs and merchandise."

Halcyon says now that it isn't going to do that part of the process.

Terminator Rights May Go to Lionsgate
Source:Los Angeles Times January 13, 2010

The Los Angeles Times reports that Lionsgate's bid of $15 million in cash plus 5% of gross receipts from any future movies makes the studio the top bidder to buy the "Terminator" franchise rights from the Halcyon Group.

In a federal bankruptcy court filing today, Halcyon Group, the company owned by producers Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, named Lionsgate the "stalking horse" bidder for the rights. The duo put the franchise up for sale in September to raise cash to work their way out of Chapter 11 reorganization.

The designation of stalking horse means any other company that wants to bid against Lionsgate has to offer at least $750,000 more. The deadline for competitive bids is February 5th. A new owner of the "Terminator" rights will be determined by the bankruptcy court at a hearing on February 10th.

Sony Pictures and Warner Bros., which distributed Terminator Salvation, were interested in acquiring the rights as well.

Sony Puts in Bid for the Terminator Franchise
Source:Variety February 5, 2010

Sony has joined Lionsgate in the bidding on the rights to the "Terminator" franchise, reports Variety. The studio submitted a bid on Thursday, the final day for submitting offers.

Lionsgate stepped up last month as the first bidder for the rights to the "Terminator" franchise with a "stalking horse" or floor bid of $15 million and a 5% cut of future gross receipts.

Halcyon Group put the franchise up for sale in September. The auction for the assets--which include the rights to future "Terminator" movies, TV series, DVDs and merchandise--will be held Monday at the offices of FTI Consulting in Los Angeles, followed by a bankruptcy court hearing two days later.

If Lionsgate doesn't win the auction, it will receive $750,000 as a breakup fee from the winning bidder.

Terminator Rights Sold to Pacificor
Source: Deadline Hollywood February 9, 2010

Deadline Hollywood has learned that the Halcyon Holding Corp. has sold the "Terminator" rights not to Sony Pictures or Lionsgate, but to Santa Barbara-based hedge fund Pacificor for $29.5 million. What's interesting is that Halcyon has previously accused Pacificor of extortion, bribery, and fraud and demanded $30M in damages.

Halcyon will receive $5 million for every "Terminator" movie made from now on, as well as retains the revenue streams from the third and fourth "Terminator" movies. An arrangement also was made that the sale now wipes out the debt Halcyon owed to Pacificor and all the other creditors.

Back on May 9, 2007, rights to the "Terminator" series passed from producers Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar to the privately funded Halcyon for a reported $30 million. It was Pacificor that lent Halcyon the money to conclude the deal.

Terminator Rights Holder Gets Representation
Source: Pacificor LLC May 27, 2010

Pacificor LLC announced today that it has retained William Morris Endeavor Entertainment to represent the company in the sale of all rights to the iconic "Terminator" franchise.

Included are rights to exploit the property for film, television, merchandise and multiplayer online games. In addition, WME has been retained to assist the Santa Barbara hedge fund in selecting and retaining key talent for the next sequel in the "Terminator" series.

The "Terminator" franchise has generated more than $3 billion in revenue since the debut of the 1984 sci-fi classic The Terminator, directed by James Cameron and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. In 2008, the Library of Congress added the film to its National Film Registry.

"Terminator's" global fan base has continued to grow through the release of the sequels Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and last year's Terminator Salvation, as well as from the television series "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles."

"'Terminator' is one of the most recognized global brands in entertainment, and will continue to excite new generations of fans," WME Chief Executive Ari Emanuel said. "We look forward to teaming with Pacificor to fully realize the value of this enduring property."

Added Pacificor Chief Executive Andrew B. Mitchell: "WME provides us with the creative expertise and strategy that will help us identify the right opportunities not only to maximize our investment, but to also make sure the 'Terminator' franchise continues to be treated with the care and respect its fans demand. We are excited to be working with them."

TERMINATOR 3000 for Hannover
Hannover and Red Bear team up for animated Terminator 3000.

A year after Christian Bale and Sam Worthington led Terminator Salvation, it seems that big-budget installments of the franchise are still set for the silver screen. Only the next story may be animated, Maniacs. Hannover and Red Bear Entertainment have passed along the following announcement regarding their intentions of a $70 million budgeted animation called Terminator 3000.

Hannover House, the entertainment distribution division of Target Development Group, Inc., has entered into a feature film development venture with Vancouver-based Red Bear Entertainment, for Terminator 3000, envisioned as a $70-million dollar budgeted, 3D animated feature film based on the characters and situations introduced in the original Terminator feature. Hannover House C.E.O. Eric Parkinson previously served as C.E.O. of Hemdale Home Video, Inc. and Hemdale Communications, Inc., and handled the distribution of the original Terminator feature.

Story details for Terminator 3000 are being kept under close wraps, but the writers and production team have a stated goal of minimizing violence in order to obtain a PG-13 level of material.

Hemdale produced and distributed director James Cameron's original Terminator feature, but released the sequel rights in 1990 to Carolco, which later transferred the rights to ultimately end up under the control of Halcyon Media. Santa Barbara based Pacificor, LLC prevailed in the most recent auction and transfer of rights to the franchise in January, and retains approval and licensing authority over the proposed Terminator 3000 project.

Hannover House and Red Bear Entertainment will release details of the production timing, financing and principal production personnel later this year, in advance of a proposed January, 2011 start.
